Art: The
Messenger August 1 - August 22
Carlo Thertus is a born artist who never attended art school or instruction yet
he remains to be one of the most prolific Artists of our time. Thertus’
paintings unite in a comprehensive theme, giving a critical and much needed
message to humanity. Driven to paint by dreams, passion and honor, Thertus'
prolific work can be seen throughout the world. In the summer of 1991 he painted
“The End...The Beginning” which has proven both prophetic and visionary. He knew
it a message he was meant to paint and
that only the President of the United States should have. In 1994 he sent the
painting “The End...The Beginning” to President Bill Clinton and it was welcomed
into the White House.
In November of 2000, Thertus painted “Between Man and God” and “The Flag, What
Freedom Means
to Me” which was painted on September 9, 2001. Thertus believes that art has its
own function in our world and that according to the world’s conditions today,
art in itself is the messenger of our time.

"Let me begin by
sending my condolences to those of you at the Art Center who were friends
with or acquaintances of Vidal.
I have been a member for almost a year and I seen the passion he had for the Art Center. He was proud of Spirit Cafe and the fact that it gave the young people of Butler a place to hang out and to express themselves in their music and art. He knew that Butler was a hard place to open the minds of those who just don't understand the world of Artists, but he never gave up trying to open doors for those who wanted to experience this world whether it be through art or music or a hidden talent. He was a wonderful young man who had a bundle of great ideas to share. I tried to attend several openings and events for the Art Center and the only time I didn't see Vidal was when he had to be at work. I had the opportunity to get to know him when we did the pig roast for the "Painted Hog" show. I will always remember him as being the "calm" in the middle of "chaos".
I want to say Thank You Vidal for making me feel welcome and for all you did to open the minds of those people in Butler who just don't understand our world. Thank you for working so hard with Becca, Val, Brian and Nicole to keep the doors of the Art Center open.
Where Vidal was, Nicole was close by also working hard for the Art Center. Thank you Nicole for all you and Vidal have done. My heart felt sympathy goes to you. May god give you strength to forge ahead in your young life and to continue the great work that you and Vidal started for the younger generation in Butler.
I hope we can all work together to problem solve, create new ideas and to stay open minded so that we may keep the Art Center going in Vidals honor.
Vidal, I will truly miss you! God speed and rest in peace."
With Sympathy,
Joanie Wilson
